8th Annual Lt. Dennis W. Zilinski, II
Blue Claws Baseball Outing
June 16th, 2016 the Lt. Dennis W. Zilinski, II Memorial Fund welcomed their guests to Military Appreciation Night. Supporters were treated to admission, a shirt, food and soft drinks to help celebrate our servicemen/women. Members of the Freehold DAV were welcomed as our honored guests including disabled American Vets from World War II, Korean, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. Also in attendance as guests were sailors, airmen and soldiers from McGuire/Dix/Lakehurst Joint Base. This is the part of the fund that makes it worthwhile, sharing and making good things happen for those who give so much and sacrifice so much for our freedom.
The first pitch on behalf of the memorial fund was thrown by MA1 Stefan Molinaro, recently returned from his tour of duty overseas and represented the memorial fund by throwing out the first pitch at the game.
The crowd was wowed by the playing of Echo Taps and were so respectful that you could actually hear a pin drop, then the playing of Amazing Grace by the Bag Pipers and the singing of our National Anthem by a local grammar. The cheers and the clapping at the finish let all participants know just how much the fans appreciated what they just witnessed. Then the flyover with our American Flag being flown over the stadium to the cheers of the crowd. Such a moving ceremony.
The reserved picnic area came alive with the bright blue shirts, sponsored by Durso-Frazier Wealth Management Group and the party began.
The weather was beautiful with a cool breeze. The BlueClaws won with a clutch single in the 9th inning. We were hoping for a BlueClaw to hit a home run in the 1st Inning, which is the inning assigned to our memorial fund by Ocean First Bank in partnership with Home Runs for Heroes. If a home run is hit by a Blue Claw Baseball Player, our memorial fund receives another $1,000.00 donation from the bank towards a grant that we received from them. No homerun was hit at our outing.
Smiling faces, lots of eating and talking, and most of all support of our troops was apparent in the crowd. This is a great outing for families with small children. The price is right, you get good food, you get a shirt and you get to support our wounded warriors all in one fun night. Thank you again to our committed sponsors, supporters and of course, our military.
The event next year will be held at the same time. If you didn’t make it this year, plan on being there next year. Until then GO BLUE CLAWS.
